Two Lovers And A Bear

Roman can talk to bears which only he, it seems, can hear talking back, and a polar bear who talks to him about life makes several appearances in the story. On their snowmobile journey south, they are warned of a blizzard, but seek shelter in an abandoned military base instead of going back. Lucy comes to believe that her stalker has followed them there. It is then revealed that the stalker is in her mind, her dead abusive father. Roman burns the military base in order to prove that her father is now dead forever and can no longer follow her.
Seeking shelter in a snow cave, Roman and Lucy talk about a herd of caribou that they had found frozen in a lake earlier in their journey. They compare their lives to these animals, being led on a path and unable to get off, with all of them drowning. As the lovers begin to succumb to the intense temperature, the bear appears again, revealing that he is God and promising to Roman that he and Lucy will see each other again. The final scene shows the lovers' now dead, frozen bodies being cut out of the snow and lifted away by a helicopter.
Filming began on 17 March 2015.[6] Images were released from the set on 25 May 2015.[7] The film's budget is $8.2 million. The filmmakers asked Iqaluit City Council to turn off street lights whilst they were filming because they did not want the orange hue that they gave off, instead wanting their own brighter, whiter lights. This involved manually disconnecting each lamppost.[8]Scenes with the bear were filmed in Porcupine, Ontario (northern Ontario near Timmins).
By turns dreamlike, horror-tinged and mournful, the movie unwinds with the headlong certainty of its foolhardy lovers. Determined to escape the past that haunts them, they see no refuge but each other in a world of forbidding cold.
thought this was going to be a indie romance movie with beautiful performances and dedication to characters and their relationships with each other over any sort of narrative. but nope, i got a movie with talking polar bears, weird diversions into horror, an imaginary stalker, burning military bases, dane dehaan fucking aggressively on a table and the embodiment of god himself. what a time to be alive
Dane DeHaan: "I can talk to bears, okay Just deal with it."Orphan Black: "Okay, whatever, wanna bang it out"Polar Bear: "God is a fallacy. Existence is contextual. Gaze into the mirror of the third sun."
Nguyen is probably one of the most untalented screenwriters working in this industry because there is literally no first act. A bunch of nothing happens and then these characters we know nothing about get into the most melodramatic bullshit fight and we're expected to care about them All while having cringey pseudo-intellectual word vomit dialogue. Fuck that. Not even a talking polar bear who's a god can save this abominable shit show. I'm insulted that something THIS bad played at Cannes.

Two Lovers and a Bear might sound like a companion piece to The Revenant, but in the film, Dane DeHaan and Tatiana Maslany face an even greater danger than Leo trying to snag an Oscar from the jaws of a grizzly bear.
"There's a blizzard coming." The first trailer has debuted thanks to TIFF for a film called Two Lovers and a Bear, a relationship drama set in the small town near the North Pole. Tatiana Maslany and Dane DeHaan star as two "star-crossed lovers" and lost souls that end up together at the top of the world. Of course, things can't be perfect and their pasts catch up to them, forcing them to make some rash decisions. There are some shots in this that seem straight out of The Thing, and an actual polar bear makes an appearance a couple of times. How the bears plays into the plot, I don't know, but it's cool to see even though it seems odd. The film didn't get great reviews out of Cannes but a few of you may be interested in it.

An hour or so later, after it seemed like we had walked up many Everests, the trail finally began to flatten out. Covered in several feet of snow, it had been difficult to navigate but I eventually got my bearings. By now it was 8.00pm and I could feel Sage getting a little stressed.
But the real reason we had come up the mountain was to track animals. And track them we did: two black bears that appeared to be a mating couple, a moose, a wolf (who produced an enormous turd) and, most exciting of all, a lynx (very rare).
Seeing bears is great, of course, and getting to watch them for a while even better. Photographing them is fine too. (Though there are many thousands of incredible photographs of bears already out there.)
But what we strive for is something a little more niche. Unusual sightings. Natural sightings. Perhaps even unique sightings. Many of the bears we see never even know that we are there. Some, in the remote areas we walk, have almost certainly never seen a human before.
Last week, after spotting a black bear and a cub by the edge of a clearing, Sage and I trailed them – again Sage in the lead – through a clearcut you would think it impossible to follow anything through. Our clues were tiny scuffs of earth and bent leaves.
After 15 years in the bush during which I have watched thousands of bears, and Sage’s precocious and voracious appetite for knowledge and new bush skills, we hope we offer something with a little more depth than most.
Filmed in the fall near Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., it stars Sophie Nelisse (a native of Windsor, Ont.) and Josh Wiggins as teen lovers who are on the lam after he steals a bag of drug money. Bill Paxton and Colm Feore co-star. 59ce067264
